The color green in The Great Gatsby represents jealousy and unattainable dreams. Nick compares Gatsby's house to the, "Hotel de Ville in Normandy, with a tower on one side, spanking new under a thin beard of raw ivy." (pg. 5). The ivy crawling up the side of the house illustrates jealousy and how it is taking over Gatsby. There is a green light on Daisy's dock that Gatsby likes to look at. The green light stands for his jealousy and hopes for unattainable dreams. The color green is also portrayed through Wilson. It says, "In the sunlight his [wilson's] face was green." (pg.123). The quote shows Wilson's jealous and envious reaction to Myrtle's affair.
In this novel the color white is associated with purity and innocence. The Location of the story, East egg and West egg, is an example of this. From the outside, an egg appears clean and pure. Across the bay from where Gatsby lives there are, "White palaces of fashionable East egg." (Pg. 5). This is where Daisy lives and from across the bay her house appears white and pure. In addition to this the name of one of the main characters, Daisy, is symbolic of the flower. A Daisy has white petals on the outside
The color yellow is used to represent decay and corruption. Although from the outside and egg appears white, on the inside it is really yellow and mushy. This is used to show how from the outside the people of East and West egg seem innocent, but on the inside they are corrupt. Gatsby drives "a yellow car. A big yellow car." (pg 139). This is the car that kills Myrtle and Daisy is the one driving it. Instead of stopping Daisy continues to drive and flee the scene. I believe the reason the word yellow is used so much after the accident is to emphasize Daisy's corrupt actions. Even though a Daisy is white on the outside, it is yellow in the middle. This yellow symbolizes the shallow and artificial nature of Daisy.

3 paragraph
In the Great Gatsby the fairy tale archetype poor to rich is displayed by Gatsby. Gatsby was once a poor man. His parents were poor and shiftless, and Gatsby resented them. To young Gatsby materials were what was beautiful in this world and that is what he desired. He started off with 25,000 dollars that he inheirited from Dan Cody. He used that money to invest with Wolfsheim and was soon to gain a fortune out of the bootlegging business.
